Please see the message from Terry Bream below about the rearrangements for the County Champs. Please read CAREFULLY. If you have any queries do let us know. I will be asking for volunteers to help out again on the two weekends when I have the time slots.
‘My apologies for not being able to give you information yesterday, I was still waiting to speak to Roger Jones to confirm the position regarding repairs and available dates.
I am now in possession of all information which I will set out below for you:
· The repairs to the boom are currently being carried out with an estimated finish date of Wednesday evening, with further testing to be carried out on Thursday. I am going over to the pool to run a course on Thursday evening so will have the chance to check that it has happened.
· The weekend of 11th 12th February will go ahead with the planned programme.
· The distance events will be as planned on 18th February.
· The re-scheduled weekend will be on 25th/26th February.
The Wilkinson Sword gala which was to be on 25th February will have to be rescheduled.
SWIM 21 – is the ASA ‘kitemark’ for a well run club. We have been awarded this for another year.
OFFICIALS TRAINING – we are running our next course on Monday nights at Kettering pool during the early session - starting on MONDAY 6TH FEBRUARY.
The course is free and run by Howard Wilkinson from Corby ASC.
As we now run 2 teams in all leagues, it is vital that we maintain a good level of qualified officials. At the moment we do struggle to staff two galas on a Saturday. The more qualified officials we have, the less often you would have to officiate!
It might look quite scary but in fact it isn’t ( it also means you get free entry to galas and you won’t have to fight for a seat in the viewing area!!!). You can just do the Timekeepers qualification ( 3 weeks theory and a practical) or the Judges qualifications ( can take up to 10 weeks and then practicals). We do need to have both types of officials at galas.
The Monday time slots will be Judge 1 – 5-6pm ( for those who currently have a timekeepers qualification)
Timekeeper – 6-7pm – for those new to officials training – you could go on to do Judge 1 or 2 afterwards.

WEBSITE AND FACEBOOK - The website is a fantastic source of information, including news, entry forms for competitions (when they come out), membership information, about KASC kit and up to date swimmers times. For the latter, you need to request access to the members area from the webmaster. You can also find us on Facebook, which is amazingly useful, especially when we want to get news out at short notice!
SWIMMERS’ TIMES – These are on the website and Amanda ( team manager) emails times from galas on a regular basis to those who competed. Swimmers and parents should also keep a record of times so that they can see their progress and have them ready for entry forms. There are also, of course, the set of badges and flashes which can be collected as certain times are reached. Information is on the website and noticeboard at Kettering or ask your coach.
SAINSBURY’S VOUCHERS – We will be collecting these again this year. We have managed to get some great equipment for land training sessions over the last two years. If only we could use them to buy a new pool!!!
What a great night the awards night was last Friday! We hope that everyone who came enjoyed themselves!
A huge thanks to Jo and Neil Freeman and Claire for putting the whole thing together and to everyone that helped with the planning, the running of the event on the night and the donation of raffle prizes and desserts.
Also, a big thank you to Councillor Scrimshaw and Steve Edwards for giving up their time to present some of our awards and we are very grateful to Councillor Scrimshaw for the £1200 cheque to replace our much worn lane ropes. A big thank you to our President, Don Ward too for presenting awards – we have now lost count of the number of awards nights that Don has attended!

Well done to our two teams who have begun their Leicester Winter League journey. They both faced tough opposition but swum their hearts out and again did lots of pb’s!
The ‘A’ team were unexpectedly promoted to Division 1 because one of the other teams in that division had pulled out at short notice but the team gave a great account of themselves. We look forward to the next round so look out for Amanda’s ( team manager) email and do please reply to her about availability AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
Entries for these are now closed. This year we have again increased the number of swimmers entered so that we have almost 40 competing. Please come along to support them on the championship weekends. It would be great to see all of our supporters wearing red and cheering loudly! County swimming hats are available for those new to the counties
These begin again at the end of January so it would be great if you could again be generous in donating them to the club. The last two years we have used them to get equipment for land training.
As a club we can only exist with a strong volunteer workforce.
If you would like to volunteer to help out with the club in any way do please let us know through the club sec email or your coaches or committee members. In particular we are looking for someone ( or perhaps 2 people) to take on the club secretary role.
We also need parents or older swimmers to become qualified officials. As we now run two teams for all leagues we need to keep a steady flow of officials coming through.It’s not as daunting as it sounds, honestly!

We finally have names for our gala teddy mascots. Many thanks to Curtis Minney who organised the vote for us.
The ‘A’ team teddy ( complete with goggles, hat and t-shirt) – is going to be called – ‘Bob’
And the ‘B’ team teddy is going to be called ‘Sprint’.
They will be appearing at galas with their respective teams and will need some volunteers to look after them on poolside!
